I was surfing on net for few times to get a ready made one and surprised. It is available from Rs. 500 to 4700!!!
I was looking for a cost effective options and diged for DYI sites. Ohh. It’s too easy to make and budget ?
1. Two old paint bucket @ 75 each = 150/-
2. Piece of pipe = 20/-
3. Effort = moderate
Other Tools : Drilling machine, 22 mm hole saw cutter , 5 mm drill bit and a piece of 2 ½ ‘’ pipe which will act as wick (length should be up to bottom of the container when it will seat on collar.
Basics of self watering Pot : It’s a pot with it’s own water container. Water comes up by following simple physics law which you know as capillary action. See http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Capillary_action if you need some more details
General arrangement will be as per the bellow

Steps :
A. Making of Wick
1. Make few holes on the pipe by hole saw cutter
2. Fix a protective net inside so that soil should sit in wick

Now Wick is ready .

Steps :B. Water Container (the bottom one which is a little bigger than the soil pot. Just to make a drain hole at the junction point of two buckets. It will overflow the excess water

Steps :C. Main Pot :
1.Make one 2 ½ ‘’ hole in center to accommodate the pipe- the WICK.
2. A ½ ‘’ hole at side the run a thru pipe to container which will be used to fill water at container (see up most pic or the bottom most - the black color pipe.

I am here again. will start to post after almost two years...Unknownnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8274758433561864055.post-39448553741259894332010-09-05T05:37:00.000-07:002012-08-28T09:22:09.864-07:00Stop Crackers in this season and help to STOP Child Labour"In India, more than 80% of total crackers are producing in Shivakashi, a small town of Tamilnadu. Around fifty thousand of children, most of them are girl are working in suffocating work-shade and continuously getting exposed with hazardous chemicals like sulfur, potash, phosphorous, chlorate etc., the children contract deadly infections of lung, skin, kidney and eyes. And all for Rs. 35 per day. A cracker sold in market for Rs.50 has approximate production cost of Rs.5 to Rs. 10."

“Workers eat bananas as a common antidote to guard against constant exposure to chemicals, mainly aluminum. It is interesting to note that most factories offer a Rs 35 per day, banana allowance. “

The more terrible thing is that, in India, As per UNICEF statistics, 17.6 millions child are sacrificing their childhood and earning some bread for their family.

There are strong legislative rules to save their childhood, a lot of NGO's are working on the same issue. But they have their own limits. It is on every people, to reserve the sweet childhood for prevelige children.
I usually saw some rag pickers who search for some waste material or food in dustbins, few sellers on traffic signals ,a shoe polish boy on bus stand or a family on road to show their road show....mother with a small baby is playing a tune, father is helping the girl who is dangerously walking over a rope without any safety precaution. Sometimes all these things shake me too much but I alone can solve their problem for a day by my individual initiative but it will not solve the problem permanently. 'coz they took the responsibility to feed the family and they are the active (sometimes the only) earning member.

To save their childhood, we need to give them alternate source of surviving, to help them to make up their poverty first . And we can do it by encouraging elder one to involve in a social self help group and earn for family and send their children to school for study and taking a perfect initiative to involve female member of the family also to earn.

I know, It is not so easy, I too may be disgusting like many others but if the statics hurts you, please stop wasting money on crackers and donate something to do the same. If all come together then it will not be impossible.Unknownnoreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8274758433561864055.post-42208042516704271092010-08-26T10:17:00.000-07:002010-08-26T10:17:21.455-07:00A Salute to The Dongria Tribes Who Stopped Vedanta and Saves Niyamgiri Hills

"The Ministry of Environment and Forests rejected Vedanta mining project in Orissa's Niyamgiri Hills.
Talking to reporters here today, Minister of State for Environment and Forests Shri Jairam Ramesh
said that the Vedanta Resources has violated laws and the Niyamgiri Hills project cannot be
given the go ahead unless the Forest Act is complied with."

"There has been a very serious violation of laws. There has been violation of the Forest Rights Act, 2006,
Environment Protection Act, 1966 and Forest Conservation Act, 1980. Therefore, the project cannot go ahead," he added.
A statement issued today says, “The stage II forest clearance for the Orissa Mining Corporation Ltd.(OMC)
and Sterlite bauxite mining project on Niyamgiri Hills in Lanjigarh, Kalahandi and Rayagada districts of
Orissa cannot be granted. Stage II Forest Clearance therefore stands rejected."

AND MINISTRY OF ENVIRONMENT REJECTED 1.7-billion bauxite mining project of VEDANTA RESORCES.
AND thus The Dongria Kondh, The tribe of Orissa's Lanjigarh block of Kalahandi district own their fight against Vedanta to save Niyamgiri Hill ("Mountain of Law ").Which is their Worship (The Dongrias worship the top of the mountain as the seat of their god) and the reach forest is their only source of living.

Good News, But it is unfortunate that The Orissa government was quick to term the decision as extremely unfortunate.
Chief minister Naveen Patnaik had met both Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and Ramesh on Monday requesting
clearance on the projects.

When they will get the EARS to listen the CRY to save the Green forest and How far they will kill the green by force by name of improvements ?
WHO CAN ANSWER But the statistics says by such violated improvements around eighteen tribes goes lost from India and the green belt is reducing by such industrialization.

Vedanta may violated human rights laws but I believe, all govt. body who denied to protect the tribes and supported the projects are the main culprit.

Thanks to ALL and I really salute them who help the Dongria Kondh to same their GOD mountain.Unknownnoreply@blogger.com1tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8274758433561864055.post-64696451323328556542010-08-02T09:23:00.000-07:002010-08-02T09:23:02.491-07:00Rain Water Harvesting - A responsibility of All

On Every summer season, I saw in news paper that the water level in reservoir went down and municipality is going to reduce the water supply.
After rain comes the statistics are on news that this reservoir is filled by this percent and that reservoir is by that.
But I surprised, Why rain water harvesting are not taking to maximum at individual level ? At govt. level, it is not easy to reach all these areas but it is very easy if they aided and encourage individuals to do the same.

Aid should include financial aid to afford the system (Installation and maintenance), some sort of reward for adopting this and technology transfer. Here are in short to get a rough idea about rain water harvesting.

What is rain water harvesting : It is to catch rain water and to use it to recharge ground water or to store it for future use.

Why Rain Water need to be harvest ? We are using Surface water and ground water for domestic use but surface water is not sufficient and recovery of ground water are not sufficient to meet our demand – result, ground water level goes down and gives birth of water crisis. To come out from this situation, we need to recharge ground water artificially .”Due to rapid urbanization, open soil area are decreasing and so, infiltration of rain water into the sub-soil has decreased drastically and recharging of ground water has diminished “ So, it becomes all individuals responsibility to do the most for rain water harvesting and Govt. , NGO's should come out for taking the responsibility for implementation it in macro and micro level. ( All Govt. and pvt. Offices, buildings , industries, individuals )

How Shall We harvest :
We can harvest in two ways :

1. Store for future use
2. Rechage of ground water

It has few steps like :

a) Catchment area - Roof top or roof slope
b) Transportation – Good quality UPVCpipes
c) First Flush – First rain water has huge contaminent which can not be use and need to be flush out.
d) Filter – Regular Sand filter, charchole filter, PVC pipe filter OR some developed good quality filter Like (Varun -Developed by Bangalore base water harvesting expert Mr. S Vishwanath, – Rs. 2250 or Wisy make SS filters (German)
e) Storage of water – After wel filtration we can store it for domestic use, Even we can use it for drinking too (See bellow informations on Rain PC by Aquasure and Rain water harvester from EA Water Pvt. Ltd. )
f) recharge ground water – Some graphics available on net (Thanks to owner and google search)
AcquaSure, a consortium of three specialist Netherlands-based companies, has developed a system for the conversion of rainwater to drinking water in the form of a Rainwater Purification Centre (RainPC).
RainPC is developed by scaling down the multi-staged water treatment method (MST), which involves screening, flocculation sedimentation and filtration and incorporating existing technologies like upward flow fine filtration, absorption and ion exchange. Coming in a small compact 26 kg unit, the RainPC offers an affordable solution by converting rainwater into drinking water.
RainPC is made of ultra violet resistant poly-ethylene housing and cover, stainless steel rods and bolts, a nickel-brass valve and an adapter for maintaining constant volume. Xenotex-A and activated carbon catridges along with ultra membrane filtration or micro-membrane filtration modules incorporated in the RainPC has the capacity to deal with E-coli and the potential of meeting the Dutch as well as World Health Organisations (WHO) water regulation standards. The components can also be transported individually to be assembled at the site. Three product types are available based on their microbial contaminant removal capacity. This technology is ideally suited for virtually any situation and is a blessing particularly for those who have little or no access to regular safe drinking water.
Whatever I find, this is due to lack of awareness and knowledge, ignorance to slow but chronic waste of money what restrict us to take these small easy steps. Here are some few examples of GREEN HABITS what we can adopt very easily.
1. Save money by Lighting your home with Green Lights :
a). Natural light is the best option ‘coz it is totally free and you can get it enough if you consider this option as the time of choosing your flats.
b) LED lighting is second option because of it’s a upcoming technologies and availability to common market, and considering initial cost CFL is the best choice which gives higher illumination with low power consumption

2. Other domestic electrical appliances: Opt for BEE or (Burue of Energy efficiency) star certified. Go for as higher rating as possible in that segment, make home study before to buy and depend little on sales executive(They will insist on their commission view)
Who Are They ?

--Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change, 2001

Global warming: results of increasing greenhouse effect in the atmosphere. Talking easily and in short, it is a blanket of gases (Mainly co2 and methane) that wraps around the Earth and holds the heat in and once it emits to atmosphere, it took around 100 years to atmosphere to go to it’s original situation.. As global temperatures increases, the climate changes. And we all experienced it. Now emission is going high, green is striving for equal existence and so,

And now we all are experiencing the climate change. It’s extreme nature. No rain, shifting of rainy season which further bows our poor, loan ridden farmer to suicide, drought area is increasing. Glaciers are melting and still we are overlooking our negative contributions to atmosphere and saying that it’s normal. We generated and propagating Global warming conspiracy theory. Anthropological heat, solar spot cycle all are right I too like to think it’s true but the harsh truth is that our negative contribution to earth is getting multiplied in every minutes which is not deniable. and still if we are thinking safe then the chances are there that we will miss the chance to save ourselves .
That's why I'm writing you today.

I just joined a really important effort to stop global warming at www.350.org. It's a new global campaign focused on making sure the world takes the kind of big, bold, fast action that we need to solve this crisis.
Here's the situation:

- The science of climate change is getting darker by the day. The Arctic is melting away with astonishing speed, decades ahead of schedule. Everything on the planet seems to be melting or burning, rising or parched. No surprise there--scientists tell us that the safe level of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere is 350 parts per million, and we're at 389 and rising.

- But there's good news: we're not cooked yet, and THIS YEAR we have an opportunity to make a real impact. In December, the nations of the world will be meeting to craft a global treaty designed to help the world act together to solve global warming. The terms of this treaty may well determine whether we actually save the planet from climate change, so it's up to all of us to make sure we get it right.

- But nobody's going to do it for us--we all need to step up here. Here's how you can help: people all over the world are coming together to create an International Day of Action on October 24th through the website 350.org. The goal is to take a united stand to get the planet--and ourselves--back to 350 out of this huge mess. If we're loud enough all over the world, we can really make a difference.

- So, if you live near me, e-mail me back and we'll start organizing a local event. If you live far away--even better. We need as many events as possible, all over the world! You can register your event at http://www.350.org/oct24

- Why 350? Find out in this fun 90-second video clip: http://www.350.org/animation

Thanks everyone--with your help, 2009 is going to be BIG.

P.S. I've also included the original invitation letter below if you want more information about 350.

--------------------------------------------------------------

Dear World—

This is an invitation to build a movement—to take one day and use it to stop the climate crisis.

We are a group of people from around the planet—young and old, scientists and writers and activists—who have one thing in common. We know the most important number on earth: 350. And we know how to use that number to finally get global action on the worst crisis humans have ever faced. But we can only do it if you help.

A year ago, our greatest climatologist—NASA's James Hansen—and his team produced a landmark series of studies. They showed that if we let the amount of carbon in the atmosphere top 350 parts per million, we can't have a planet "similar to the one on which civilization developed and to which life on earth is adapted."

The bad news is we're already past that number—we're at 390 parts per million, which is why the Arctic is melting, why drought is spreading across the planet, why people are already dying from diseases like dengue fever and malaria occurring in places where they've never been seen before.

The good news: that number gives us a target to aim for. When the world's leaders meet in Copenhagen in December to reach agreement on a new climate treaty, we need them to go farther than they've planned to go: we need to make sure they'll pay attention to the latest science and put forward a plan that gets us back to safety.

So here's the plan. On October 24, we need you to organize an action in the place where you live, something that will make that most important number visible to everyone. People in more than 1000 communities around the globe have already announced plans—they'll be school children planting 350 trees in Bangledesh, scientists hanging banners saying 350 on the statues on Easter Island, 350 scuba divers diving underwater at the Great Barrier Reef, and a thousand more creative actions like these. At each event, people will gather for a big group photo that somehow depicts 350--and upload that photo to the web 350.org. As actions take place around the world, we'll link all the pictures together electronically via the web--by the end of the day, we'll have a powerful visual petition linking together the entire planet that we can deliver to the media and world leaders.

So far more than 100 nations are taking part—it's shaping up to be to be the biggest day of grassroots action on global warming ever. But we need it to be much larger—we need you, in your village or town or city, to take part. It's not hard—we can help you with materials and ideas. But you need to take the first step, by registering an action and starting to let your friends and neighbors know about it.

Involve groups that you're in—everything from your church, mosque or synagogue to your local bicycle group. People want to help, especially if they see the chance for something that might actually matter. This is even more important than changing your lightbulb—this is your chance to help change the way the whole world operates. October 24 comes six weeks before those crucial UN meetings in Copenhagen. It's a great chance to take a stand—maybe the last great chance, given what the scientists tell us about the momentum of global warming.

But it can only happen with the help of a global movement—and it's starting to bubble up everywhere. Farmers in Cameroon, students in China, even World Cup skiers have already helped spread the word about 350. Churches have rung their bells 350 times; Buddhist monks have formed a huge 350 with their bodies against the backdrop of Himalayas. 350 translates across every boundary of language and culture. It's clear and direct, cutting through the static and laying down a firm scientific line.

This is like a final exam for human beings. Can we muster the courage, the commitment, and the creativity to set this earth on a steady course before it's too late? This efficiency is something we need to ensure that our pollution detection sensors can navigate in the underwater environment for hours on end,” he said.

“We will produce a system that allows the fish to search underwater, meaning that we will be able to analyse not only chemicals on the surface of the water, but also those that are dissolved in the water,” he added.

Doyle and Hu hope to release five of the bots into the water by the end of next year.

Unknownnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8274758433561864055.post-68567687408669448552009-09-15T20:08:00.001-07:002009-09-15T20:08:29.056-07:00World Ozone day Celebration | B4tea.comWorld Ozone day Celebration | B4tea.com

Shared via AddThis
Unknownnoreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8274758433561864055.post-6408857173809110762009-09-10T10:19:00.000-07:002009-09-10T10:25:49.571-07:00Riot!!!!We are Human..Humanity is our Religion.
MUMBAI (AFP) — Two frogs have been "married" in a ceremony in the western Indian state of Maharashtra to usher in the delayed monsoon rains, a report said Wednesday.

Residents in a suburb of Nagpur, 860 kilometres (530 miles) east of the state capital Mumbai, looked on as the groom, Raja, and bride, Rani, were joined in union in a solemn ritual at the weekend, the Times of India said.

Tradition dictates that if frogs are married off with full Vedic or Hindu rituals, the rain god is pleased and the heavens will open within days. Similar ceremonies have been held across the country.

Indians have been watching the skies anxiously after the monsoon failed to appear two weeks ago, prompting concerns about the impact on agriculture and water supplies as lakes run dry after a long, hot summer.
